Could Colorful Netbooks Woo you into Buying Them – Ask Manli Technology

The much awaited Computex 2010 at Taipei finally arrived, and taking a walk through the show floor offered quite an amazing experience. If not for anything else, because for every few blocks you walked, you could stumble upon a booth of a company never heard before, displaying tablet designs or notebooks that you might never have heard of or seen before. Most of the time, such companies are ODMs (Original Design Manufacturers) working backstage to produce great devices for other companies and don’t really want to appear public and be known as the masterminds behind the curtain of wonderful brands.

It is no wonder consumers were cordially surprised at the Computex 2010 when Manli Technology, a fairly unknown company, had a booth for … you guessed it right – marketing very colorful netbooks directly to consumers worldwide. Some bit of history, Manli is a manufacturing company that is actually run by Malata, the Original Design Manufacturer who is currently promising to bring on board Windows 7 tablets. Ironically though, there were no Manli tablets on display yet at the Computex 2010.

Manli Manufacturers, who are famous for manufacturing graphics cards and motherboards, is hoping to make a brand name for itself in the ultraportable and netbook consumer space. Its first netbook, the M3, was uncovered at the 2009 Computex Show. Computex 2010 has seen the unveiling o the company’s first 12-inch notebook, the M7, which is said to feature 2GB of RAM, 1.2-GHz Intel Celereon SU2300, and a 160,250, or 320GB. Even though the device was first announced in January of 2010, not many had seen it, and its many attractive colors of deep red, deep blue, and black.

Apart from the Manli M7, there was a 10-inch screen display netbook, the Manli M5 on display too. This one spots 160GB hard drive, Atom N450 CPU, and IGB of Random Access Memory. It is available in attractive red, black, pink, white, and lime green. Little is told about the availability of this newest addition but one thing that is for certain is that the company is hoping to woo buyers into buying this device, if not for anything else, for the vibrant colors it has.

MeeGo 1.0 is now Available for Linux Netbooks

The New Version of Linux for Netbooks which was first announced back in February has finally been released. After 3 solid months of testing, retesting, and testing again, the 1.0 release of this open source Linux Operating System for netbooks, mobile applications and other hand held devices has been welcomed with open arms. The OS dubbed MeeGo, is a joint effort between Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) and Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and is set to revolutionize all Intel based netbooks.

MeeGo combines specific elements of Nokia’s Maemo Linux with Intel’s Moblin Linux to come up with the new OS whose initial release on handheld and mobile applications is set to be in June. Its release on netbooks provides developers with a more stable and reliable core basis for application development and an overall rich user experience.

At the centre of the MeeGo release is the Linux 2.6.33 kernel which ironically was the first kernel to withdraw support for the competitor Google Android OS and its related drivers. The new MeeGo 1.0 utilizes the next generation Btrfs technology as the default file system. This new technology was first initiated by Oracle and made its first appearance in the Linux 2.6.28 Kernel. The main goal with this Btrfs is to offer a more efficient and scalable filesystem reliable and stable data access.

MeeGo 1.0 further utilizes the open source QT framework for the user interface, and for the Web Browser, it is available with Google Chrome which happens to be the default for all Google’s Android devices. Another notable contributor to the MeeGo project is Novell bringing in the open source Banshee application which provides the default media player for these devices.

In the open source Banshee application in the MeeGo 1.0 integration extension, one gets a user-friendly panel that integrates the entire toolbar meaning you will have very quick and easy access to your music and all play queue sources. It is to be noted that even though Intel and Nokia are the leaders in the MeeGo project, the project is officially run under the sponsorship of the Linux Foundation.

Packard Bell’s Valentino Rossi Dot VR46 Special Edition Netbook

Perhaps to compete with Acer’s Ferrari themed netbooks, Packard bell is due to release a special edition netbook in homage to Moto GP, Valentino Rossi. With a stunning lid design, it certainly looks the part with a striking sun and moon design which is apparently the same emblem which appears on the legend’s helmet. However, the question is, does the dot VR46 netbook have what it takes? Most importantly, is it worthy of the Valentino Rossi moniker?

Shipping with Windows 7 Home Premium as standard, the machine is equipped with not the typical Intel Atom CPU, but instead a ULV (ultra low voltage) Core2 Duo processor for that extra additional horsepower. With 2 GB of DDR2 as standard, it’s good to see a move away from under-performing 1 GB machines. Coming with all the usual Wi-Fi / Bluetooth / card reader functionality which you’d expect, it has to be said that it’s a powerful and well equipped piece of kit. With an 11.6″ display supporting 1366×768 HD, this is good news for movie fans and with the GMA 4500MHD on board graphics chip providing video, it’s a capable movie machine that can tackle HD movies without problem. The Packard Bell dot VR46 certainly looks good on paper, but a UK release date is yet to be confirmed.

Packard bell’s new offering is pleasing on paper and while we’re generally impressed, they have yet to announce a release date and the price leaves a little to be desired. While this netbook is certainly as powerful as it is stylish, Packard Bell’s price tag of £449 begs a little caution considering that HP, Dell and Acer will all be launching similar models that are equally as powerful in the near future.

LG release netbook in the US – The LG X120

LG have finally entered the netbook market with the release of the LG X120. It comes with, what now seems to be standard for netbooks, 1GB of RAM, 160 Har Drive, 10.1″ screen, a 1.3 megapixel camera, HD stero speakers and Wi-Fi.

Its a pretty sleek looking netbook designed with a matt white finish. You should also be able to get up to seven hours running time on the battery. One of the benefits of the LG 120 is that you can have a constant internet connection thanks to the 3G wireless connection, but it will depend on your location.

You can currently pick up one of these in the US with an AT&T contract for two years, together with a 60$ 5GB plan.

Malata R108T Touchscreen Netbook

They are starting to drip through steadily now and Chinese firm Malata have now built this latest touchscreen netbook. Shown here in its ferrari red, it’s also comes in Black, Gold or Champagne, it boasts a 10″ touchscreen display, swivel head, the standard 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, 1GB of memory, plus a 160GB hard drive.

On top of this it has Windows 7, a webcam, Wi-Fi, VGA, a memory card reader and 2 USB ports. It is currently priced at a little less than the Asus T91, so hopefully, it if makes it over to the UK it will keep this smaller price tag.

One disadvantage to the R108T is that it comes without any support for portrait orientation, but, hopefully this will be a problem solved by the time it makes it over to the UK or the USA.

Samsung N20

The latest Samsung has now been released. Following on from the N10, Samsung will launch the suprisingly named N20. The latest version does unfortunatley come at a slightly higher price but two improvements see the the N20 come with a nano processor and a 12.1″ screen.

Other features of the N20 include a microsoft operating system, 1GB memory and a very useful 160 GB hardrive. You also get a 1.3 megapixel camera. One of the benefits of the N20 is the notebook sized keyboard. Increasing the size of the keyboard makes typing easier and improves typing speeds. The N20 also improves on the screen size of its competitiors which may improve sales of this energy effiecient netbook.

Asus Eee P91 Touch

It was never going to take long and now it is here. The T91 is the first of the netbooks to use a touchscreen. It has a 8.9″ swivel touchscreen that can fold down so that the it can be transformed into tablet format.

Two further advances in the netbook market see the T91 come with a tuner and a gps system. At least you will know where you are while watching tv.

Asus EEE Book in the Works

Sony seem to have decided to keep the Vaio P seperate to the netbook market. Everything about it puts it in the same category as a netbook, well, apart from the price. Sony have applied the notebook title to this mini-laptop even though it comes with an 8 inch screen.

This small notebook has a great design and comes in a number of different colours including black, white, red and green. One of the drawbacks of the Sony VAIO P is the tiny mouse buttons which have been relegated to a small area at the front of the keyboard. There is also a distinct lack of a touchpad to navigate around the screen effectively, although the keyboard is a suitable size.

With a vast array of netbooks on the market providing similar features to the VAIO P we’d be suprised if it out sells its netbook named competitors.
