Samsung N120 Netbook

It appears that Intel are soon to announce one of its biggest makeovers for netbooks since they first burst onto the technology scene back in 2008. The Atom processor, which has been a mainstay in netbooks, will be replaced by the latest “Pine Trail” atom processor technology.

This will mean that the graphics function, that has previously been on a seperate chip, will be pushed into the main CPU. The big news for consumers is that this will increase “battery life”, according to Sean Maloney (Intel), but also “performance more than anything”.

It is expected that all the major netbook manufacturers such as Asus, Acer, Toshiba and MSI are all expected to refresh their models. The first new Pine view atom processor which is expected will be a new 1.66GHz version (rumoured to be called the N450). Later it may be After this, a faster 1.83GHz version, the N470 is due. Lets hope we start to see these more powerful netbooks start to trickle through shortly.
