Yes, you heard it right; Acer and Asus have halted the release of any new netbooks until sometimes mid of August 2010, reliable sources report. Some background knowledge — both Asus and Acer are recognized and well respected brand names in the laptop and netbook industry, thanks to the many products and netbook models they have constantly supplied to their potential consumers without fail. This way, consumers have always felt that they are getting the best and latest netbook in the market, even if it is a simple upgrade of a previous version already in the market.

This marketing ploy has hugely awarded both companies as currently they are the leading netbook dealers globally and are a household name whenever netbooks are mentioned. That aside, despite this well known fact, the companies have decided to halt on new releases. This move is likely because of the fact that the Intel is planning to release a new product in the market – the Atom N550 dual core processor, which is slated for release sometimes in the third quarter of this year.

It is in light of this that Acer and Asus needs some time off to liquidate excess inventory and create room for future netbooks which will be powered by the N550 processor, meaning the performance of netbooks would be better and faster. Despite this positive attribute of a fast processor which means task will be completed easily unlike with the predecessor processors, it is to be noted that the upgrade will also see an upgrade in the cost of the netbooks that will be carrying the new N550 dual core processor.

It is however projected that the cost increase will not be very significant meaning that the current netbooks from Asus and Acer with slower processors will be difficult to sell, no wonder the window period of about a month for stock clearance. Further, it doesn’t make any sense for the companies to continue manufacturing any netbooks that would be hard to market and sell and are waiting for the release of the processor. It is only a matter of wait and see as we hold our breathes that the new netbooks powered by the new processor will be affordable to the average citizen.

At the forefront of hot netbook/laptop news is the upcoming release of DDR3 chips available in mobile netbook/laptop formats. DDR is short for double data rate of random access memory or RAM. Up until now DDR2 has been the ultimate RAM achievable in a netbook or laptop but the Acer Aspire One 533 netbook is about to change all that. In layman’s terms, DDR3 RAM will be able to run twice as fast as the previously speeds of DDR2. That means lower power usage and higher bandwidth performance.

For those of you with a life outside of computers asking why this matters and why should I care… it does and you should. If you are dependant on your notebook for work, school or pleasure DDR3 is going to change how much you love your netbook! DDR3 RAM will mean a faster and smoother ride for whatever applications you’ve got running on the netbook and in the case of the Acer Aspire One, the specs are so impressive that driving this Acer shouldn’t feel much different from driving a home PC.

The Acer Aspire One 533 is a 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 screen with 1GB of DDR3 RAM, a 250GB HDD, 10/100 LAN, WiFi and a Bluetooth 3.0 supporting netbook – which means achievable speed and storage previously foreign to netbooks. While lower power usage isn’t a biggie for PC users it is something netbook users are constantly aware of. This netbooks 6-cell battery should provide a healthy 10 hours of operation before a recharge is necessary. No doubt we will see another flurry of activity on the netbook market with new devices carrying DDR3 on board. Combined with all the new hardware and software innovation coming on line this should be fun!

With the increase in demand for ultra compact, thin, light-weight yet powerful netbooks, manufacturers are upping their game and have started producing small pocket-friendly netbooks. Not to be left behind, industry giants Asustek have joined the bandwagon, producing unrivaled affordable netbooks without compromising on the features. The Eee PC 1005 PR Netbook is the latest kid on the multi-award winning Eee PC Seashell Series block.

The Eee PC 1005 PR Netbook is a multimedia centric machine which delivers a very smooth and rich High Definition viewing experience thanks to the Pine Trail Atom N450 processor and the new HD screen. The Eee PC 1005 PR Netbook is actually an upgraded version of the Eee PC 1005 HA, and it resembles the 1005P/PE in appearance, design, and specs, but instead of the normal 10.1 inch 1024X768 pixel LCD, the 1005 PR packs a higher resolution of 1366X768 (720p HD) 10.1 inch.

It goes without saying that even though the screen size remains the same, the resolution gives you more room on the desktop making things appear less cramped. Other notable features include a 250GB Hard Drive, Broadcom Crystal HD Accelerator (BCM70015), 10.1” LED Backlit screen with HD capable 1366×768 resolution, 802.11b/g/n wireless connectivity, HD audio, Bluetooth v2.1, Intel GMA 3150 graphics, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, Ethernet LAN, three USB ports, VGA output MMC / SD (SDHC) card reader, and 0.3MP webcam.

The Netbook further features ASUS’ proprietary Super Hybrid Engine and boasts a battery life of up to 11 hours thanks to the 6-cell battery. The netbook has energy consumption features and patterns to meet any tasks, reducing power usage by up to 15% and generally optimizing energy efficiency. All this features come in a compacted package weighing only 2.8 pounds.

Even more remarkable is the price tag of only $399, a truly brilliant price tag for a feature-packed stylish netbook. With such a fair price on this all-around Netbook, the Asus Eee PC 1005 PR netbook which a few weeks ago was only available for pre-order is already in the market and on very high demand in the US.

With the release of Apple iPAD, the interest in tablet PC is set to soar, but the Asus Eee PC T101MT is all set and ready to compete in the market. This is a touch screen convertible netbook, otherwise known as a netvertible, which looks ordinary but has a screen display that can be rotated around and folded over the keyboard to function as a tablet. While the Asus Eee PC T101MT has the same price tag with the iPad, this netvertible offers much more — full operating system, a keyboard, multitasking capabilities and a whole lot more.

Some of the System specs Include:

10.1 inch screen, multi touch capable with 1024 x 600 pixels resolution

Chiclet keyboard

1.66 GHz Atom N450 CPU with hyper threading

1 GB/2 GB RAM (max) and 320 GB HDD at 5400 RPM

WiFi 802.11n

4 cell 2400 mAh and 35 Wh battery pack, removable

A metallic retractable magnetic stylus

0.3 Megapixel Webcam

Windows 7 Home Premium

3 USB ports, VGA output, Ethernet, Kensington Lock

Mic and Headphones jack as well as a Card reader

The T101MT, which was announced way back in February by the industry giants Asus, is a bigger and better version of its predecessor the 8.9 inch T91MT. This was one of the first multi-touch netvertibles to hit the market late last year.

Considerably, this netbook’s display is the first one from the company to enable multi-touch input, meaning you can stroke, pinch, and stretch your way across your content. Sadly though, the screen isn’t of the captive type as you will find on an iPhone, it’s of the resistive variety meaning you have to exert yourself a little and wield pressure with your fingers to make it work. Well, this might be too much exercising for many people’s liking, but the handwriting recognition and bundled stylus features are a definite plus.

The Asus UL20AT netbook, which is powered by an ultra Low Voltage (CULV) Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 CPU, resembles its predecessor UL20A laptop, but has a few updates thus bringing with it new and improved features. Note that both of these measure the same in both dimension and weight wise, but one notable improvement on the new Asus UL20AT model is the Turbo33 speed boost technology as well as the fast DDR3 RAM, which are absent in its heir. The netbook further supports up to 4GB and features Intel GMA 450MHD graphics, which has both dedicated and shared video Random Access Memory.

The Asus UL20AT netbook further boasts a 12.1 inch sleek display and a maximum screen resolution of 1366×768 pixels. This gives you an opportunity to watch HD 720p videos. It is available in different configurations, with four processor options namely: core 2 Duo SU7300, 1.2GHz Intel Celeron 743/SU2300, 1.2GHz Celeron SU2300/743, and 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500.

As mentioned, UL20AT is equipped with 4GB internal 1066MHz DDR3 memory, scaling upwards up to 500GB HDD that operates at 5400RPM, Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, 0.3MP webcam that makes video conferencing easy, 3MB of cache and a 10W Max TDP, a clock frequency of 1.3GHz, and a powerful 6-cell battery with up to 8 hours of operation with no interruption. It weighs only 1.56kg, battery included and its dimension is 296×210×25.1-30.9mm. Even though it is an upgraded version of UL20A, this netbook is worth every penny.
