After Intel’s recent launch of its Pine Trail platform, Asus were quick to assemble a new Eee PC, the 1008P. With a new look and a new chipset, the new seashell from Asus really does fantastic, but the question many people are asking, does it perform as well? Let’s take a look.

On first inspection, the Eee PC 1008P takes a step away from the norm, avoiding the vulcanized or ultra-glossy finishes that everyone loves to hate. With the Eee PC 1008P, Asus contracted award winning industrial designer Karim Rashid to zest up this little machine and he did just that. With a pseudo 3D design, the Eee PC 1008P looks not so little with the choice between a faux-crocodile body and a classy shocking pink finish.

After receiving the Eee PC 1008P and opening it up, we were greeted not just with good looks, but a machine that’s been built to the typical high quality seashell standards. With an easy to use raised keyboard, as well as Intel’s new N450 CPU, this Eee PC also features a high quality 10″ display, 250 GB of hard disk space and the usual extras such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet and a web cam.

However, we have to admit that the new machine by Asus is by all means just another Netbook. It’s not revolutionary to say the least, but the design features incorporated within are refreshing and combined with its stunning appearance, we enjoyed our time spend with the Eee PC. What we particularly liked about this little netbook was the fact it comes with a removable battery and a hidden VGA adaptor underneath which plugs into a USB port when required.

The new netbook from Asus is good looking, portable and well-featured. While it’s not the most powerful of netbooks out there, it’s highly portable and with a price tag of just $499 (£300) it’s worth every penny if style’s high on your agenda.
